University!!

Went to the University of Canterbury to do a bit of "studying"... haha... manage to do a bit of bio and physics work but then again, a bit of work in 2.5 hours is not reli that good... haha... my first experience in uni was disastrous... firstly, me and my fren got lost... we couldn't help it... the university campus was so big... and we also didn't know which library we had to go to meet up with our other friends... u wudn't believe it... there was a central library, education library, engineering library, law library, physical science library... and they were all splitted in like ten different directions... so what we did was stood in front of the map directory and wondered where we should go... haha... probably got lost a couple of times but hey, we found it in the end... so then, we walk into this library n we had another choice to make... which floor are our friends on? i mean... the library is so big that it had 6 floors (pause to let it sink in)... yes, 6 floors... n it was filled with books n i mean literally filled with books... everywhere we look there was books... thick or thin, big or small, n every title under the sun (i think)... makes me feel like a little midget... haha... so there we go... my first experience in a university... makes me feel rather old when i wander around the campus though... sigh...

Update

So sry abt not updating but finally i've got broadband... weee.... haha... finally, after being here for a long time, i finally screw up the courage to go to 'Revolution' (which is a youth group) and it was simply awsome... haha... it's not much different from Impact (malaysian youth group) but ah well... the onli thing different is that most of the ppl are kiwis which are quite cool... let me say this though, ALL of them are friendly... haha... they make me feel so homely... n now since it's the holidays, i'm quite happy n contented though lazy to do any study... *cough cough*... but anyway, i'm going off to the west coast of New Zealand to a place called Punakaiki ( i think it's spelt like that) where apparently the pancake rocks are... so mayb, mayb i'll b able to get my hands on some photos... haha... no promise tho... anyways, i'm loving the weather here because it's so nice n stuff, reli nice n cooling haha... i noe, this blog doesn't make sense... sry...

Dear

Dear Grace,

Hey, how are ya? It’s been 2 weeks since I left and I am now in Dunedin waiting for university to begin. I’m currently staying at a Studholme College, which is a Hall of Residence in which students not from Dunedin can stay and make friends.

Came down from Christchurch via bus on Friday the 20th of Feb. It was a long 6 hour journey and I pretty much slept most of the time. Don’t remember doing anything else :) It was great fun riding on a double decker bus, you get awesome views from the front. Hahaha. So when we got there, I had to hire a taxi which could carry my bike. I ordered one but it never came so in the end my friend had to come and pick me up from the bus exchange :)

I can tell you now, Dunedin is a real cold place to be in. Ever since the first day I’ve been in Dunedin, it’s been raining nonstop. Plus, the fact that Dunedin is almost the southernmost point of New Zealand doesn’t make Dunedin a very warm place. The sun hasn’t been out and I’ve been soaked by rain every time I step out of my college.

What is Studholme College like? It’s a real cool place to be in. The floor I’m staying on is a multisex area, so there are boys and girls on the same floor, living next to each other. All of our rooms are single bedrooms so there is privacy for everyone. Furthurmore, the bathrooms are unisex. That means the guys and the gals share the same bathroom. Kinda freaked me out a bit but I’ll cope :) Pretty unusual for that sort of thing but everyone will hv to get used to it. The common room there is like a room from a luxury house. Unbelievable. There is a pool table, a LCD TV, surround sound system, and even leather couches. Hahaha. Pretty awesome.

So, today is Saturday. Officially the first day of the arrival of the many residents of the hall I’m staying at and already I’ve met quite a few people. It’s rather interesting really to see people mingle around, making friends, and chatting as if they’ve known each other for ages. Had my first meal tonight, played a few games of ping pong (not very good at it though), and played hacky. Hacky is a game in which a group of people gather in a circle and juggle a small ball between them using any parts of their body except for their hands. Some people got really into it and were laughing so hard at the end of it we couldn’t play it properly anymore. So we decided to call it a day.

So that’s my day so far. How have you been? How’s working in Kairos? Are the kids still bugging you? If they are, remember, patience is what you need to become a language therapist :) Hahaha. I don’t think much has changed since I left. 2 weeks is not a long time for things to change properly. Anyway, take care of yourself. Don’t overwork yourself and God bless.

Regards,

Ethan Ling

PS. I guess I better do an extension to this since I’m a bit behind time. It is now the Saturday 2 weeks after I wrote this. Hahahaha. Kinda late I know, but I got so caught up in sorting out Uni stuff plus lectures just began last week. Lectures have been fun especially the Chemistry lectures as the lecturer is this cool guy. Well, enough about life in Uni, 2 weeks in Dunedin has and still is hectic. Tip if you’re ever coming here *which I highly doubt you will*, never go out after 11pm as drunk people will start to wander the streets. Hahaha... Apparently the women here have a ¼ chance of getting raped... Probably by drunk people... Pretty scary stats really... Pretty much walking everywhere I go now, probably a good thing as I’m eating way too much for a person my size... Been trying to do a bit of studying everyday and it is just not my thing. Hahahaha. Oh well, that’s it from me, take care of yourself...

Anyway, my new address if you’re planning to write,

Ethan Ling,
Studholme College,
127 Clyde Street,
Dunedin,
Otago,
New Zealand

Oh yeah, and SPM results are coming out soon so all the best to that and don’t freak out too much :)

Autumn...

Autumn has just started n it is much much much more chilly down here... the weird thing is, u can still see girls running around in short skirts n spaghetti straps n wonder "how on earth do they survive this weather?" wait till winter... wohohoho, then we'll see how ppl wrap up down here, anyways, i have been bogged down with assignments n i've got an internal assessment that gives me 3 credits tmr... i'm pretty sure i can get at least 2 cause it's onli a titration practical... haha... Anyways, bio down here is the onli subject that slaughters cause i've nvr learned all these stuff b4... things like plant responses n how they react to it n why... sigh... i oso need to adapt to physics as when i calculate measurements with directions, i'll need to state which direction it's travelling... haha.. sounds confusing right? well it does...
